Delight yourself in the Lord

Delight yourself in the Lord, and He shall give you the desires of your heart.
      Psalms 37: 4.

To delight is to be happy, satisfied and joyful.

These states are so essential in every situation and more so in the
times we live in.

The world is faced with a seemly helpless situation and there is the
a tendency to feel overwhelmed, if we focus on the things that we are
confronted with daily – things that constantly struggle for our attention.

The truth is - whatever we are faced with right now is subject to
change.

No condition is permanent and the direction our situation takes is
dependent on what we choose to do.

Our light affliction is but for a moment and works for us a far more
exceeding and eternal weight of glory.

Let us learn to walk in the light of God’s word.

To delight in God is to delight in His word.
God commands us to delight ourselves in His word, and it is for our own
good.

Five reasons you should delight in God’s word:

  1.      It is a command and not a suggestion. God’s words are laws – they are unchanging.
Our wise policy is to align ourselves with His laws.

2   Joy and peace are the right state of mind, greatly essential for victorious life.Without peace,
we will be mostly miserable. The joy of the Lord is our strength.

 3.       It brings healing to our body. Research has shown that joy increases our state of immunity.
Heaviness of the heart makes it sick, but a good word is uplifting.

4.       The Spirit of God is the Spirit of joy. As a child of God, His nature is imparted into you.
You can exhibit the fruit of the spirit – one of which is joy.

5.       With the constant expression of joy, you can partake of God’s salvation.
Joy is the highest expression of faith. Our comfort in God is expressed by our
      delight of His word.

Three ways we can delight ourselves in God’s word:

1.      1.   Give attention to the Word. Our spirit and mind need to feed on the right mental nutrition.
We act on what we constantly feed on. Incorporating the word of God, therefore, into
our basic mental process is the wise thing to aim at.

2.       2.  Spend at least 20 minutes of your day, preferably morning time to meditate
and ponder on the scriptures. See yourself conforming more and more to the Word.

3.       3.   Have a quality time of prayer. Prayer is communicating with your maker.
We need His guidance daily to navigate the various challenges that
             confront us
