Ten benefits of Biblical meditation

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success - Joshua 1:8.

A great deal of thoughts pass through our minds daily and most are not exactly beneficial to our total well-being, and this need not be so.

Biblical meditation is reflection on God, His works, abilities and on His Word with the ultimate aim of being transformed by its mighty power. It is an exercise that gives true inner peace regardless of the external circumstances.

It is not an esoteric exercise as in Eastern meditation which should be avoided.

Mantra meditation for example uses vain repetition which the Bible warns against.

Also, transcendental meditation requires the emptying of one’s mind; while mindfulness is the focus on your thoughts as they pass through the mind.

In Biblical meditation, the focus is God and his Word, unlike the New Age meditation in which the object is self.

New Age meditation is steeped in mysticism and spirit possession which the Bible strongly cautions against.

Biblical meditation involves pondering on God’s thoughts as revealed in the scriptures and not just on your own thoughts.

This process leads to deeper understanding and enhances personal application of the insights from received from the Bible.
