35 Bible verses about humility
Humility is the state of being humble. It is a quality that is of great importance in our walk with God and relationship with fellow men/women.
The Bible contains passages of God’s expectation regarding this virtue.
A man's pride will bring him low, but a humble spirit will obtain honor (Prov. 29:23).
Humility is first and foremost an attitude of the heart and not just an outward appearance.
A person may display humility outwardly but the heart may be full of pride.
True humility is a character and an attitude. It is viewing ourselves and others from God’s perspective.
Characteristics of a humble person:
- Works with good conscience
- Does not exercise selfish ambition.
- Does not solicit for men’s commendation/attention.
- Seeks to do that which pleases God.

Seeing that this virtue is so much important in living a life that pleases God, let the following Bible verses inspire you to live a life of humility.
James 4: 6
But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.
James 4:10
Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.
Job 22:29
When men are cast down, then thou shalt say, There is lifting up; and he shall save the humble person.
1 Peter 5:5
Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.
Proverbs 29:23
A man's pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.
Proverbs 3:34
Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly.
Psalm 138:6
